The scientific-research institute of design is the main organization of design and ergonomics in Ukraine, working organ of the Council of design at the Cabinet of Ministers. For years the activity of the specialists of institute over 2000 scientific researches and project developments were executed, 800 patents on the invention were got, industrial prototype of the Specialists of institute - permanent participants of the international exhibitions, seminars, conferences, repeated laureates and prizewinners of competitions.
The institute is the founder of Union of designers of Ukraine, All-Ukrainian ergonomics association.
Basic direction of the activity of institute is forming in Ukraine modern, abler for self-development system of the design-ergonomical providing of industry, forming of appropriate environment for the person?s living.
From the first years of independence of Ukraine the institute established the forming of the national design system and developed and realized the a lot of decisions of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the development of national design and ergonomics, the normative base of design was created. Already over 50 developed by an institute state standards on design and ergonomics are now operating, the Conception on the development of national design for the period up to 2010 was created and is realized now.
Researches of the institute are oriented to the decision of tasks of providing of financial viability and efficiency of industrial good production, creation of modern subject environment of living activity by methods of design and ergonomics. First of all the below the things belong to them: application of methodology of design to creation of new wares, planning of environment; development of prognoses, state strategy of development of design; ergodesign systems of management of atomic energy generic objects; development of the standards of design and ergonomics.
Major direction of institute?s activity is the design-ergonomic planning of industrial wares. The main methodological aspect of these developments is understanding of necessity of output of man from the power of artificial technical world, which is to be carried out due to humanization of co-operation of man and technique.
Processes of production, distributing and consumption of goods, utilization of wastes are considered as the system of communication, which a designer must optimize by the decisions. At such approach there are the criteria of guard of environment, economies of unrenewable natural resources, ecologically harmless technologies and ecological of wares are considered as the most important.
The institute is leading establishment in Ukraine (and earlier in USSR) in the development of the systems of visual orientation and information of man in environment. Creation of visual comfort, economy of time on the orientation, the increasing of general aesthetically level of environment during the introduction of the systems of visual information carry out positive influence on the capability of man, his work productivity.
SRI of design conducts a lot of initiative developments on the directions of preparation and retraining of specialists in industry of design; develops the base for accreditation of organizations and physical persons working in industry of design and ergonomics. In the nearest time measures trainings on increasing of qualification level, retraining of designers and ergonomists will be carried out.
