The Institute was established in 1952. A significant role in the process of its formation was played by the renowned scientists in the fields of technical cybernetics, computing devices and modeling theory, academicians G. Pukhov and P. Kukhtenko. Their scientific and pedagogical schools were set up at the Institute.
The Institute provides training of specialists of all levels for the work in the sphere of manufacture, technical maintenance and repair of aircraft equipment, electronic household devices, biotechnical and medical equipment and systems, radioelectrical equipment, systems and complexes, radio communication equipment, broadcasting and television electrotechnical systems, lighting engineering and light sources, systems of automatics and control, computer-integrated technological processes and manufacturing and personal property. Highly skilled teaching staff including 45 Doctors of Sciences, professors and 106 Candidates of Sciences, senior lecturers work at the Institute. Modern information technologies are widely used in the educational process.
The Institute has a training aerodrome which is equipped with modern equipment and devices. It helps the students acquire some practical skills working with the radio equipment, aero-navigation facilities, radio communication and telecommunication.
The Institute has close relationship with the scientific and industrial enterprises: Antonov, scientific-research association Artem, Arsenal, Elektromash, design bureaus of Tupolev and Beriev, National Space Agency, Petrovskiy plant and a chain of institutes of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
