9 research institutes have been created within National Aviation University.
Institute of Advanced TechnologiesInstitute of Advanced Technologies was created by the Decree of National Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Education of Science of Ukraine (#213\68 of 20.03.2002). The main task of the Institute is training of masters with profound study of theoretical disciplines and creation of favourable conditions for training of high scientific qualification specialists.

Institute communicates with advanced manufacturers and aviation engineering operators, Ukrainian and foreign higher educational institutions.
Research Institute of fast-going processes The Research Institute of mechanics of fast-going processes was established in 1993 according to the order of Minister for education, President of the Academy of engineering sciences of Ukraine and rector KIICA on the basis of chair employees of air-port construction and Science Manufacturing Department "Potential", in which except for the chair teachers, regular doctors and candidates of sciences, graduate students and students of FAI worked also. In most tense periods composition of National Research Institute counted to 100 research workers.
The research design bureau УBuranФ
Modern aviation world is full of different developments and designs. Last years Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) have been developed very intensively. The research design bureau УBuranФ which is aimed to develop the UAV was established at the National Aviation University in 2004. The УBuranФ design bureau is to investigate the possibilities of UAV application in the national economy. These vehicles can be widely used for monitoring of different processes, in mapping, aerial works, agriculture, mobile communication and the like.
The experience gained by Ukrainian researchers and designers has been widely used in developments of this bureau. At presents more that 30 design projects of UAV are being created in the bureau.
These UAV have different aerodynamics configurations and characteristics with specialized navigation and automatic control systems.
The bureau has got experimental and production as well as software packages which can be applied for hydrodynamic peculiarities taking into account compressibility and viscosity of the environment. This allows to deferment UAV aerodynamic characteristics in wide range of subsonic flight speeds.
Theoretical results are tested in Aerodynamic Complex of the University (addition information http://ndch.nau.edu.ua/wt).
A RC-operators school has been organized at the design bureau there students of the University and school children can be trained.
The educational-scientific Centre of air traffic controllers training
For obtaining technological and procedural habits of air traffic control on simulator and scientific investigations in development of air traffic management (ATM) system on the basis of the air navigational systems chair УThe educational-scientific Centre of air traffic controllers trainingФ is made for students practical preparation who study in NAU on sector 1001 УAviation and cosmonauticsФ on specialty 7.100109 УAir traffic serviceФ.

- Maintenance of educational-methodical guidance of training program for procedural, module and complex air traffic simulators;
- Realization of practical lessons on simulators for students and raising the level of specialists skill;
- Development and implementation of the best training methods for air traffic control staff;
- Communication with scientific and educational institutions and enterprises in training sphere;
- Analysis of educational level of students and planning actions for raising of level of practical skills;
Scientific and researching work
- Development of the intellectual support systems for making right decisions during air traffic control;
- Development of the air traffic controller failure avoidance system;
- Improvement of the air traffic management system elements for realization of ICAO and EUROCONTROL conceptions: flexible usage of airspace, necessary naviga-tional characteristics, concept of Free Flight, etc;
- Carrying out of scientific experiments for testing and implementation of innovational technologies in air traffic management.
